Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment
The Pickers Map is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to guarantee we provide equal access to all users.
Standards We Follow
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone. The guidelines cover three levels of accessibility: A, AA, and AAA. We have chosen Level AA as our target, which is the level recommended by the U.S. Department of Justice and widely recognized as the standard for commercial websites.
What We're Doing
To help ensure accessibility, we have taken the following measures:
- Semantic HTML structure throughout the site for proper screen reader navigation.
- Sufficient color contrast ratios for text and interactive elements.
- Keyboard navigability for all interactive features, including the map, forms, and menus.
- Descriptive alt text for images and meaningful labels for form inputs.
- ARIA attributes where necessary to enhance assistive technology compatibility.
- Responsive design that works across all screen sizes and zoom levels up to 200%.
- Focus indicators that are clearly visible for keyboard users.
- Support for system-level dark mode and high-contrast preferences.
Known Limitations
While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, some content may have limitations:
- Interactive maps: The MapLibre-based map may have limited screen reader support. We provide a list-based alternative view for browsing sales that is fully accessible.
- User-uploaded images: Photos uploaded by sellers may not have descriptive alt text. We encourage sellers to add detailed descriptions to their listings.
- Third-party content: Some embedded content from external services (e.g., payment processing via Stripe) may not fully conform to our accessibility standards.
Assistive Technology Compatibility
The Pickers Map is designed to be compatible with common assistive technologies, including screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS), screen magnification software, voice recognition tools, and alternative input devices. We test with VoiceOver on macOS/iOS and NVDA on Windows.
